Boards can be stacked in alternating directions, to achieve stands that measure a height of:
3.5 inches (2 pieces)
7 inches (4 pieces)
10.5 inches (6 pieces)
14 inches (8 pieces)

Rain barrel stands are made from recycled end-cuts of 4 x 4 inch lumber, which actually measure 3.5 x 3.5 inches x 24 inches long, so no additional trees were cut to produce this product. A 24 inch tall, bench-style stand (8 boards) can also be created by using four boards as vertical legs and securing them together with the remaining four boards, each running horizontally between two legs. Six inch woodscrews (not included) can be purchased from a local hardware store, and we recommend 4 screws at each end of the horizontal boards (32 screws in total) to support the weight of a full rain barrel. A solid base of gravel, bricks, cinder blocks or a 2×2 patio stone is recommended.
We receive the wood in strapped bundles containing hundreds of pieces. Some bundles are wrapped in tarps and others are not. The lumber is in its natural state and has not been treated, stained or painted and may have arrived wet, discoloured or weathered.
In most cases, every single piece will have at least three surfaces that are in excellent shape. Before constructing your rain barrel stand, consider allowing the wood to thoroughly dry and treating it with a sealer, stain or paint to extend the lifespan of the wood. Organize the pieces in advance so that the best sides are facing outward and so that the very best pieces are used to construct the top surface. The most weathered surfaces can be easily hidden out of sight.
